Describe your symbiotic concept

Describe your symbiotic concept and include sketches/models.

the concept that i chose for this project is the first sketch (see below). for this i decided to start with a brace around the wrist and create one module to repeat over and over to create the full piece and give the illusion that it is growing up the arm. as the pieces get further away from the wrist they also increase in size. i did the same thing for the piece on the ankle as well and decided to add that entire piece to help balance out the entire thing.

for this project, i decided to add on to the railing leading off the stairs. i had originally wanted to make all nine rungs instead of just eight, but i ran out of material, seriously limiting my options. i had also wanted to make the addition much longer and incorporate multiple curves, but again materials were limited.

i found the foam core to be extremely unstable and ver difficult to work with. i was too hard to get a clean edge on any cut, no matter how slow or how new the blade.

(i also apologize for the poor photo quality, i must not have saved the pictures to my computer or something and it has already been removed)

overall i think my project was successful, considering the complications.

1 to 1

while constructing this project i was really excited to be able to get it to roll around and i had everything all planned out, but when it came time to put it all together, my expectations were shattered. i sanded down edges to make them smooth, but it turns out that scoring the rod to hold the wheels together was the mistake made while putting it together. i should have used a thinner piece to wrap around it to smooth it out because what prevented it from moving was the planes that all face different angles to make the wheel round. i decided to compensate by at least making the trucks in a way that allowed the cardboard to lean from side to side. that was done just by layering folded pieces together and it worked great. i was even able to make the proper shape of the wheels by scoring a circle and moving from the center out, then just pushing it through. i tried to make it as close to the real one as i could and i’m pretty pleased with it.

i think its safe to say that these modules were a disaster. i had a difficult time trying to make the templates to fold the paper without cutting something off or the modules not holding together very well. eventually i gave up and rolled the paper into cylinders and cones.
